The World Digital Education Alliance (WDEA) was jointly initiated by the China Education Association for International Exchange, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Beijing Normal University, the Chinese Academy of Educational Sciences, the Center for Educational Technology and Resource Development, and China Education Media Group, with support from international organizations such as the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education, the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization, the International Society for Technology in Education, and the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization. The Alliance was officially announced at the 2024 World Digital Education Conference, held in Shanghai on 30 January 2024.
As of the end of April 2025, the Alliance has grown to 115 members, covering international organizations, universities, and enterprises across 43 countries and regions.
