CUHK Vice Chancellor Delivers Keynote at Pujiang Innovation Forum
Professor Dennis Lo Yuk Ming, Vice Chancellor of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), participated in and delivered a keynote speech at the 18th Pujiang Innovation Forum jointly founded by the Ministry of Science and Technology and Shanghai Municipal People’s Government on 21 September. The Forum, themed “Sharing Innovation and Shaping the Future: Building an Open and Collaborative Global Science and Technology Community”, brought together leading scientists and policymakers from around the world to explore the future of technological innovation and international collaboration.
In his speech, Professor Lo highlighted the transformative impact of non-invasive diagnostic technologies on global healthcare, particularly in the early detection of cancer, fetus health conditions, and major diseases. He also shared the efforts in advancing the clinical application of non-invasive technologies, including collaborations with international and mainland partners to promote technology transfer and industrialization.
This year, the Forum featured keynote presentations from scientists in fields as energy, life sciences, and materials science. Professor Lo joined research leaders from France, Germany, and Denmark in discussing how scientific innovation can address challenges in human health and sustainable development.
CUHK Attends Opening Ceremony for New Academic Year of Shenzhen Loop Area Institute
The Shenzhen Loop Area Institute (SLAI) held its opening ceremony of the new academic year on 28 September, marking a significant step in advancing the nation’s AI education strategy in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Professor Isabella Poon Wai-yin, Provost of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), and Professor Irwin King, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, attended the ceremony alongside leaders from the Ministry of Education, Guangdong Provincial Government, Shenzhen Municipal Government, and representatives from participating universities.
SLAI is designated by the State Ministry of Education as a national pilot zone for cultivating top-tier innovative talents in artificial intelligence. It will integrate global cutting-edge research resources, cross-border innovation elements from Shenzhen and Hong Kong, and leading industrial ecosystems, thereby advancing the frontier of artificial intelligence innovation and applications. CUHK has started to collaborate with CUHK Shenzhen in this national initiative to become a premier education and research platform for high-end AI talents.
CUHK Participates in HICOOL 2025 Global Entrepreneurs Summit
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) joined the HICOOL 2025 Global Entrepreneurs Summit held in Beijing on 16 October. Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Sham Mai-Har took part in a series of key activities on behalf of the University, showcasing CUHK’s active engagement and achievement in innovation and entrepreneurship.
Professor Sham attended the opening ceremony and awards presentation of the Summit, joining Beijing Party Secretary Yin Li, Mayor Yin Yong, and other leaders in witnessing the celebration of the Global Entrepreneurship Competition and the launch of several innovation platforms. She also participated in a media interview session, where she shared CUHK’s latest developments in innovation and technology, talent cultivation, and collaboration with Mainland institutions.
CUHK has maintained a strong partnership with HICOOL. In June 2023, the University established the CUHK Beijing Centre in collaboration with HICOOL to further deepen collaboration with partners in the Chinese Mainland. Professor Sham’s participation in HICOOL 2025 continued CUHK’s close ties with Beijing in nurturing innovation talent, promoting technology transfer, and advancing international cooperation, contributing to the integration of innovation ecosystems between the two cities.
