CUHK Welcomes NSFC Delegation to Strengthen Research Collaboration
On 23 October, a delegation from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), led by Vice Chairperson Lu Jianhua, visited The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) to enhance academic exchange and explore future development opportunities. The delegates were warmly received by Professor Dennis Lo, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK. Both sides engaged in discussions on strengthening cooperation in frontier research and talent development.
CUHK representatives joining the meeting included Professor Xu Jianbin, Associate Dean (Mainland Affairs) of Engineering; Professor Jiang Liwen, Associate Dean (Research) of Science; Professor Yu Jun, Assistant Dean (Mainland Affairs) of Medicine and Director of the State Key Laboratory of Digestive Disease; Professor Lam Hon-Ming, Director of the State Key Laboratory of Agrobiotechnology; and Professor Liu Renbao, Director of the State Key Laboratory of Quantum Information Technology and Materials.
The visit also featured a tour of the State Key Laboratory of Quantum Information Technology and Materials. This visit bolstered the strong ties between CUHK and NSFC, laying a solid foundation for future cooperation in major national research initiatives, interdisciplinary innovation, and talent cultivation.
Meeting with President of Fudan University
On 5 September, Professor Jin Li, President of Fudan University, led a delegation to meet with the representatives of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) for exchange and explore future collaboration opportunities. CUHK Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Dennis Lo joined the meeting, and he was accompanied by CUHK Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Sham Mai-har, and members from the Faculty of Medicine and the Department of Chinese Language and Literature. Both sides engaged in discussions on medical research, public health, language and culture, and interdisciplinary collaboration, as well as strategies for talent development, research innovation, and international partnerships.
Since signing their first inter-university cooperation agreement in 1985, CUHK and Fudan have built a long-standing and multi-faceted partnership covering academic exchange, student training, joint research, and alliances. The two universities also actively contribute to strengthening ties between Hong Kong and Shanghai in higher education and global engagement.
Beijing Zhongguancun College Visits CUHK
Professor Liu Tie-Yan, President of Beijing Zhongguancun College and Chairman of the Zhongguancun Artificial Intelligence Research Institute, led a delegation to The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 26 September to explore collaboration in research and talent development. Professor Sham Mai-Har, CUHK’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research), welcomed the delegation and hosted a meeting. She was joined by Professor Xu Jianbin, Associate Dean (Mainland Affairs) of Engineering, and Ms. Wong Wing, Director of Academic Links (Mainland and Regional). Both sides shared their strategic priorities and held discussions on interdisciplinary research collaboration and talent cultivation in AI.
Professor Sham highlighted CUHK’s commitment to collaboration with Mainland partners, stressing that AI is a strategic focus for the University with dedicated education programmes and the interdisciplinary AI research institute to drive innovation and application.
Delegation of Anhui Provincial Department of Science and Technology Visits CUHK
A delegation led by Li Guo-Yang, Deputy Director of the Anhui Provincial Department of Science and Technology, visited The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 12 September to explore collaboration channels and promote academic exchanges.
The delegation met with Professor Irwin King, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, who gave an overview of the recent development in the University. During the meeting, discussions were held on future collaboration directions and specific plans to enhance the interflow between the two regions. The visit enhanced understanding and paved the way for future collaboration in science and technology between Anhui and the University.
