CUHK Hosts the 15th Chinese Academy of Engineering Academicians Visit Programme
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) organized the 15th Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) Academicians Visit Programme on campus from 18 to 21 November. Four distinguished academicians, Professor Yang Baofeng, Professor Gui Weihua, Professor Jia Weiping, and Professor Li Qingquan, were invited to visit CUHK. The delegation met with CUHK representatives, including Professor Dennis Lo, CUHK’s Vice-Chancellor and President, to exchange views and receive updates on the University’s latest developments. The academicians served as keynote speakers for the Lecture Series by Academicians of CUHK, where they shared cutting‑edge achievements and unique insights regarding their respective research fields. The academicians’ lectures drew an audience of nearly 400 CUHK students, faculty, and community participants, fostering vibrant dialogue across disciplines.
To strengthen collaboration between outstanding professionals in Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland within the field of engineering science, CUHK established the CAE Academicians Visit Programme. It invites up to five CAE members each year to deepen ties between CAE and CUHK via scholarly exchange, lectures, and meetings with academic units across diverse research areas, paving the way for future collaborative endeavours.
2025 Academic Symposium on Logistics and Supply Chain Management in CUHK
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) hosted the 2025 Academic Symposium on Logistics and Supply Chain Management from 9 to 11 November. The event aimed to foster interdisciplinary academic exchange, capture emerging trends in logistics and supply chain management research, and achieve breakthroughs on frontier issues to serve major national development needs. It gathered around thirty scholars from the Chinese Mainland and Hong Kong to deliver thematic talks, which included recipients of the National Natural Science Foundation of China’s Distinguished Young Scholar and Excellent Young Scholar awards. The activities attracted over one hundred participants.
Distinguished guests joining the opening ceremony comprised Professor Sham Mai-har, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) of CUHK; Mr. Zhang Wei, Director of Division I, Department of Management Science, National Natural Science Foundation of China; Mr. Hsu Hoi Shan, President of the Beijing-Hong Kong Academic Exchange Centre; and Professor Zhou Lin, Dean of CUHK Business School.
Professor Sham, in her remark, emphasized the critical role of logistics in Hong Kong’s future economic development, specifying CUHK’s long-term commitment to advancing and deepening research in this field, sharing outcomes with industry, and strengthening collaboration between academia and industry to generate synergistic benefits.
Since 2007, CUHK has organized annual academic symposia under the collaborative framework with the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Beijing-Hong Kong Academic Exchange Centre. These symposia provide a platform for scholars from both regions to exchange ideas and explore future cooperation opportunities. Past themes have covered a wide range of fields, including quantum information technology, smart cities, bioinformatics and applications, chemical biology, condensed matter and optical physics, health and disease in developmental processes, automation and control, climate change, digestive diseases, big data, adolescent mental health and illness, data-driven management and decision-making, artificial intelligence, climate change, health and sustainable development, as well as bone and cartilage degeneration and regeneration.
