CUHK Vice-Chancellor Participates in the Advanced Symposium on Mechanisms and Animal Models of Human Diseases
Prof. Dennis Lo, Vice-Chancellor and President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), led a CUHK delegation and joined by Prof. Andrew M. Chan, Director of the School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS), to attend the “Advanced Symposium on Mechanisms and Animal Models of Human Diseases,” organized by the Kunming Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Professor Lo and Professor Chan delivered keynote speeches and shared their cutting-edge research findings at the Symposium. The symposium was held in Kunming, China, from 5 to 7 September. CUHK members from SBS delivered academic presentations for the expert session under specific themes.
SBS PhD students actively engaged in the oral and poster presentation sessions and achieved outstanding results. Three students won prizes for their oral presentations, while five students received awards for their poster presentations.
CUHK Vice-Chancellor Attends Exchange Seminar with CAST and Hong Kong Innovation Leaders
Prof. Dennis Lo, Vice-Chancellor and President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and President of the Hong Kong Academy of Sciences, participated in the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and Hong Kong’s Innovation Community Seminar held on 16 September. The event aimed to strengthen collaboration and exchange in technological innovation between the Chinese Mainland and Hong Kong.
Professor Lo gave remarks at the seminar and engaged in in-depth discussions with participating guests on key topics covering advancing research collaboration, promoting talent mobility, and enhancing international innovation platforms. The symposium brought together leaders from CAST, the Education and Technology Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR, and senior management members from Hong Kong universities to exchange views on driving innovation and technology development.
CUHK Hosts Dean’s Forum on Social Science
On 24 October, the Faculty of Social Science of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), in collaboration with the School of Social Sciences of Tsinghua University, hosted the 2nd Dean’s Forum on Social Science in Hong Kong. The Forum brought together Deans, Deputy Deans, Scholars, and Researchers from leading universities in the Chinese Mainland, namely Nanjing University and Sun Yat-sen University, and Hong Kong, including City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and The University of Hong Kong. CUHK was honored to have Professor Manuel Antonio Javier TEEHANKEE of the World Trade Organization and Dr. Jang Ping THIA of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank as keynote speakers, sharing profound insights on global social and economic developments.
Together with all academic leaders, the Forum set up a valuable platform to exchange ideas, strengthen partnerships, and explore innovative approaches to research and education. The University looks forward to collaborating with Tsinghua University and other participating institutions and fostering academic exchange across the regions.
CUHK Hosts Rural Revitalization Symposium 2025 to Advance Sustainable Urban-Rural Development
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) hosted the Rural Revitalization Symposium 2025 from 3 to 4 October. The event was jointly organised by the School of Architecture of CUHK, Tsinghua University’s School of Architecture, and the Wu Zhi Qiao (Bridge to China) Charitable Foundation. It attracted over 340 participants and brought together more than 40 scholars and industry leaders from Hong Kong, the Chinese Mainland, Europe, the United States, and Southeast Asia.
Under the theme “Contextualizing Urban-Rural Integration,” the Symposium explored challenges and opportunities for fostering balanced, mutually beneficial relationships between urban and rural areas to achieve long-term sustainable development. The opening ceremony featured distinguished guests, including Ms Bernadette Linn, Secretary for Development of the HKSAR Government; CUHK Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Dennis Lo; and Professor Zhang Yue from Tsinghua University. Professor Lo emphasised that Hong Kong 2030+ has set the vision for future development, and the symposium takes up the role as a platform for constructive dialogue to advance sustainable urban-rural strategies.
The symposium also resulted in a significant milestone where Tsinghua University invited CUHK to join the University Alliance for Rural Development, a national network of over 150 Mainland universities. CUHK’s Centre for Sustainable Placemaking and Urban-rural Regeneration (SPUR) represented CUHK at the Alliance’s annual conference and the Forum on Harmonious Rural Development in Xi’an in late October, showcasing the University’s research achievements on rural revitalisation, strengthening its role in China’s largest collaborative platform for rural development.
